Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 19 Mar

  • IF steel prices rise by INR 100-1,000/t
  • Active demand were spotted today

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices increased d-o-d on 19 March 2025. Across markets, mills raised their offers by INR 100-1,000/tonne (t) compared to the previous trading session.

Sponge iron prices rose by INR 200-450/t d-o-d, with the highest increase seen in the Durgapur market.

Billet tags increased by INR 300-1,000/t d-o-d, with the steepest hike seen in the Chennai region.

Rebar (Fe 500) offers climbed up by INR 100-700/t d-o-d, with the sharpest rise witnessed in the Raigarh, Raipur and Hyderabad markets.

The price rally continued today amid decent trading activities. The market is seeing positive movement due to previous bookings secured by sellers and also due to the government’s announcement of a provisional safeguard duty on imports of non-alloy and alloy steel flat products. As per participants, prices are likely to remain supported in the near term.
