Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 15 Jul

  • Limited trading activities witnessed across regions
  • Prices likely to remain supported this week

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices showed mixed trends d-o-d on 15 July 2026.

Sponge iron prices dropped marginally by INR 50-100/t d-o-d, with the sharpest drop of INR 100/t seen in Durgapur and Ramgarh, where prices reached INR 22,900/t and INR 22,700/t respectively.

Billet prices varied by INR 50-300/t d-o-d across locations, with the highest increase of INR 300/t recorded in Mumbai, where prices reached INR 39,700/t.

Rebar (Fe 500) prices remained unchanged d-o-d in most of the locations except minor fluctuations in few markets such as Raipur where prices rose INR 100/t, Hyderabad and Durgapur where prices marginal drop of INR 200/t and INR 100/t respectively.

Today, limited buying enquiries were heard in finished and semi-finished steel at current offers, although prices found support on improved booking activity over the past two days, specifically in the finished segment. Encouraged by improved buying interest, sellers either reduced discounts or increased spot offers slightly.

Market participants reported firmer negotiations, supported by better order inflows and increased confidence among sellers. Prices are likely to remain supported this week.

The conversion spread from sponge iron (PDRI) to billets for the standalone induction furnaces in the Raipur cluster was assessed at INR 14,300/t.
