Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 13 Jul

  • Rebar prices fall; Sponge iron and billet shows mixed trends
  • Moderate trading activity recorded amid price correction

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices showed mixed trends d-o-d across regions on 13 July 2026.

Sponge iron prices dropped INR 50-150/t d-o-d across locations, with the sharpest fell of INR 150/t seen in Durgapur, where prices reached INR 22,900/t. However, prices slight rose by INR 100/t to INR 25,700/t.

Billet prices varied by INR 50-500/t d-o-d across locations, with the highest decrease of INR 500/t recorded in Hyderabad, where prices reached INR 39,000/t.

Rebar (Fe 500) prices fell by INR 100-200/t across locations. The steepest drop of INR 200/t was recorded in Raipur and Raigarh to INR 39,300/t and INR 38,900/t respectively.

Amid price corrections, moderate booking activity in the semi-finished and finished steel segment was witnessed during today’s trading session.

However, overall market momentum remains insufficient to sustain a stronger upward price trend. Healthy and consistent trading activity in the finished steel segment is still required to support further price gains. In the absence of stronger end-user demand, buyers are likely to continue purchasing only against immediate requirements, limiting the pace of any sustained recovery.

Based on the current market scenario, steel prices are expected to remain stable during the week. Further price direction will largely depend on the pace of finished steel sales and the continuity of booking activity across key consuming sectors.

The conversion spread from sponge iron (PDRI) to billets for the standalone induction furnaces in the Raipur cluster was assessed at INR 14,500/t.
