Coal prices in India will remain strong in short term said
market experts, which is sold through E-auction or long term contract basis.
“The depreciation in the rupee and low production will
keep the prices intact. There is acute shortage of coal in India more over
expensive imports of coal deepen the problem.” said a coal importer based
in Chennai
“I am worried. While prices are at around $280 a tonne
(FOB), the slide in the rupee is making imports costlier,” said Gautam
Kumar, director of Asia Minerals, which imports coke and coal
from Ukraine. “We are likely to see a drop in new order bookings.
This will definitely affect overall coking coal imports in the short
term,” Kumar added.
