Indian Coking Coal Imports boost up

Coking Coal imports at Indian ports have grown sharply this week and registered the growth of 11.7% to 0.8 MnT during the week ended on 10 May.

India has imported around 0.80 MnT Coking Coal at the end of Week 19. India’s total weekly import comprises of 24% Coking Coal, comes from different destination. Total imported quantity has increased from 0.7 MnT of preceding week assessed by SteelMint.
Australia, a major supplier of Coking Coal, has supplied around 0.63 MnT and registered a growth of 24% against the previous week.

India has imported total quantity from Australia, South Africa, Canada & New Zealand. Out of the weekly imports, India has import about 0.07 MnT from South Africa at Mormugao port; whole quantity imported by JSW Steel.

As per the consideration of 33 major & minor Indian ports, Vizag has imported highest quantity i.e. around 0.22 MnT of Coal. The second highest quantity port was Mormugao, imported around 0.19 MnT of Coking Coal from Australia & South Africa; the whole quantity belongs to JSW Steel & Sesa Sterlite.

SAIL, JSW Steel & KISPL (Knowledge Infrastructure) are the major importers of Coking Coal at the end of week 19 and imported around 0.3 MnT, 0.27 MnT & 0.11 MnT respectively. Bhusan Steel has imported around 0.08 MnT Coal from Australia at Paradip port.

SteelMint noted, Australian Goonyella middle seam Met Coal (CSN 8.5) has been traded at around INR 8,000/MT on CFR basis. However in another trade in Vizag Goonyella, Coking Coal traded at INR 8,100/MT.

The ports considered are: Dahej, Mormugao, Navlakhi, Mundra, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Hazira, Kandla, Bedi, Porbander, Dahanu, Dharmatar PnP, Dharamtar Ispat, Tuticorin, Jaigarh, Dighi, Revdanda, Magdalla, Pipavav GPPL, UTCL- Pipavav, Sanghi, Sikka, Okha, Muldwarka, Dhamra, Ennore, Gangavaram, Haldia, Krishnapatnam, Kakinada, Paradip, Vizag & Karaikal.
