SteelMint assessed that India’s weekly Coal import dropped by 9.7 per cent and received total around 2.8 MnT Coal in the very last week of 2013 (Week 52). Out of the total imported Coal, around 70 per cent was Non-Coking, about 23.4 per cent was Coking and around 6.5 per cent were others (Coke/Anthracite).
In SteelMint consideration of 33 major and minor ports, Mundra has imported maximum quantity of around 0.4 MnT on Week 52. All received Coal grades were Non-Coking from different destinations in Mundra and mostly belong to Adani Power. Another port which received large amount of Coal was Krishnapatnam, through which India imported around 0.36 MnT and major contribution in quantity was given by Simhapuri Energy, Parasakthi Cements, KCP Cements, Zuari Cements and MBG Commodities.
Coking Coal imports stood at around 0.6 MnT and major importer was SAIL which imported around 0.2 MnT Coking Coal majorly from Australia. Tata Steels also imported around 0.2 MnT Coking Coal from Australia and New Zealand.
The ports considered are Dahej, Mormugao, Navlakhi, Mundra, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Hazira, Kandla, Bedi, Porbander, Dahanu, Dharmatar PnP, Dharamtar Ispat, Tuticorin, Jaigarh, Dighi, Revdanda, Magdalla, Pipavav GPPL, UTCL- Pipavav, Sanghi, Sikka, Okha, Muldwarka, Dhamra, Ennore, Gangavaram, Haldia, Krishnapatnam, Kakinada, Paradip, Vizag and Karaikal.
