Indian Chrome Ore Production Rises in Oct’18

Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 242,666 MT in Oct’18. It is about 27% higher than the production witnessed in Sep’18. However, on a yearly basis, Chrome Ore production is witnessed to be marginally down by 2% as production in Oct’17 was 248,412 MT.

Production level by captive miners went up by a mere 8% M-o-M. Balasore Alloys witnessed a massive rise of 51% M-o-M in its production, while IDCOL registered a sharp fall of 57%.

The merchant miners have however witnessed a substantial rise of 32% M-o-M in its Chrome Ore production. B.C. Mohanthy & Sons registered a sharp increase of 144%. Moreover, Tata Steel and OMC recorded a significant M-o-M increase of 34% and 31% respectively in its production and IMFA registered an increase of 12% M-o-M.

The increase in Chrome Ore production can be attributed to the anticipation of healthy demand, similar to last year.
