Indian Chrome Ore Production Decreased by 5.8% in Feb’16

Production of chrome and chrome concentrates decreased by 5.8% in Feb’16 in comparison to Jan’15.

Odisha contributes to around 98% of the total chrome ore produced in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha decreased by 5.8% and stood at 374,922 MT in Feb’16. In Jan’15, chrome ore production was 398,199 MT.

Captive miners in Feb’16 have increased production by almost 2.2% M-o-M mainly contributed by Balasore Alloys and Jindal Stainless. However, merchant miners in Feb’16 have decreased production by 8.9% with Tata Steel reducing production by over 53%. Although, merchant miner OMC in Feb’16 has increased production by 74.4% in comparison to Jan’16.
