Indian bulk pig iron exports surge nearly 25% y-o-y in FY17, according to data maintained by SteelMint based on vessel line up. Thailand, was the major importer of Indian made pig iron.
In the FY17 the total exports were reported at 336,290 MT against 265,900 in FY16.
Exports have risen specifically in Q4 FY17, in line with sharp increase in global scrap prices & limited supply of pig iron from CIS based countries.
In FY17, the major quantity was exported by MMTC (128,740) followed by Vedanta (117,350 MT), RINL (47,000 MT) & SAIL (43,200 MT).
In the FY17, Thailand was the largest destination for Indian pig iron which accounted for 43% (147,790 MT) of total exports from India followed by EGYPT 21% (72,700 MT), Bangladesh at 11% (38,700 MT) and 22% (77,100 MT) to other South East Asian Countries.
