Indian Billet Prices rise Sharply

Indian Billet prices increased sharply on low inventory levels, however sustainability remains a question

Billet prices move sharply in North and West India, owing to low availability of imported Scrap. Current offers are at INR 30,000/MT (Ex- Mumbai) and INR 30,600 /MT (Ex- Mandi Gobindgarh).

“Sudden fall in imported Scrap offers has kept sellers & buyers away from the market. This in turn has hit the production along with low finished inventory with stockiest and manufacturers,” said a leading TMT manufacturer in Mumbai.

Another manufacturer mentions, prices have gone up rapidly, sustainability is a question. Steel mills have started booking Scrap at these levels for which delivery will be made in March.

Similar situation is observed in eastern market , where prices have gone up by INR 400-600 W-o-W basis. Current offers for commercial grade Billet are at INR 26,000/MT to INR 30,000/MT.
