Indian billet prices correct on weak demand and hike in excise duty

“India
billet prices have shown a downtrend on sluggish demand and hike in excise duty
which has made finished steel expensive by Rs. 800-900/t. It will be too early
to say if effect of excise duty can be passed on to end users. Billet at Raipur
is offered at Rs. 34,000/MT (Prices next day) showing a fall of Rs. 400/MT and
no significant demand,' said a Raipur based trader.

“The power cut in Tamil Nadu has resulted in a
crisis for material and the production has come down to
one-third. This has also increased the prices
of Billet in Chennai,” said a manufacturer in Chennai.

Trading prices of Billet
in Bhilai and Durgapur remain unchanged at Rs. 34,000/MT (Basic prices) and Rs.
38,800/MT (Including all) respectively.

Billet prices are trading
at Rs. 34,600/MT in Mumbai (Ex-works) showing a decrease of Rs. 400/MT.
