India continues to remain one of the leading billet exporters in the global billet market for Jul’20 as well. According to shipment data of 20 major ports maintained with SteelMint, the country’s billet export shipments stood over 1 mn t in Jul’20 to hit an all-time high, against ~0.8 mn t in Jun’20, up 25% m-o-m.
China continues to remain the largest importer of Indian billets for the third consecutive month with ~700,000 t of billet imports in Jul’20 followed by Thailand (~94,000 t) and Indonesia (~76,000 t)
SAIL, RINL, JSPL, and Tata accounted for over 80% of total billet exports, data shows.
Outlook: Indian mills had started to shift their focus from the global market towards the domestic market on improving demand, since the beginning of Jul’20. According to SteelMint analysis, a slight fall in export shipments is expected in Aug’20.
