Indian Bar and rod production increased by 6% in FY 17 to 35.04 MnT as compared to 33.14 MnT in FY 16.
The major rise in production was by Vizag Steel (RINL), a government owned integrated steel plant with 17% with total production at approximately 3 MnT for FY17 followed by SAIL (Steel Authority of India) by 13% at 2.43 MnT.
In terms of production, Tata Steel Limited (TSL) was the largest bar and rod producer with 3.12 MnT with an increment of 1% in FY17 as compared to FY 16.
Mini & others steel producers registered a surge of 6% with production at 23.5MnT, Y-o-Y. The ramp up in the production by medium and small producers is because of the increasing demand in the market and encouragement of the good quality material rather than the brand.

Exports Surge and Imports Decline:
– As per the data, the imports declined by 46% Y-o-Y with 0.96 MnT in FY 17 as compared to 1.77 MnT in FY 16.
– As per government data, the Indian Bar and Rod exports surge in FY 17 by approximately 72% as compared to FY 16. The total export of bar and rod was gauged at 0.63 MnT* for FY 17
