Sluggish demand continued to prevail in Indian anthracite coal market.
Availability of cheap alternate fuels in domestic as well as international markets has eroded affinity for importing the comparatively high-priced anthracite coal among Indian end-users, leading to low demand.
A reputed importer in the country said that import offers have undergone no change from USD 92-93/MT, CFR India.
Alternate fuels like Met coke, Pet coke and other forms of coal have become significantly cheaper in both home as well as international markets.
SteelMint research shows that no import consignment had landed at any Indian port in Jan’16; upto the 18th of the month.
