Indian Anthracite Coal Market Stays Grim; Import Offers Drift Down

The Anthracite Coal market in India has continued to remain lackluster, without a slightest hint of the market undergoing any improvement in the near term. In contrast, strong demand has prevailed in the international regions as power plants were stocking the coal to cater to the peak demand during the winter season. Also, consumption of the coal by the fertilizer industry in China has increased, pushing the prices upwards.

Import offer has undergone slight decrement than that in the week last. According to a reputed importer, the latest import offer is at around USD 133/MT CFR India.

In India, user-industries have preferred alternate forms of fuel, like Petcoke and other forms of coal, resulting in the Anthracite Coal market in the country remaining sluggish.

In China, demand for the coal has been strong as the fertilizer industry there procured actively. Consequently, spot prices of Anthracite Coal in that country have hovered high at around USD 109/MT, according to inputs received.

IMPORTS

Imports of Anthracite Coal into India have been meager, apparently due to the lackluster atmosphere in the country. During the 1-29Nov’16 period, 77,300 MT of Anthracite Coal was imported into India, data collected by CoalMint Research shows.
