There has been no improvement in the demand for Anthracite Coal in India. The market has remained lackluster; and there is also no prospect for any improvement in the succeeding year. Users of the coal in the country do not prefer the coal, and instead they prefer using alternate fuels.
In the meantime, global offers for the coal have remained at high rates, primarily due to the higher prices of Coking Coal. As Anthracite Coal could be blended with Coking Coal during steel making, prices of both the coal types are co-related.
International offers for Anthracite Coal were reported at around USD 145/MT CFR India, unchanged on week-on-week basis.

As the market was almost devoid of any demand, imports were negligible. During the 1-26Dec’17 period, only two import consignments of the coal, both procured by Tata Steel, arrived India. The two import consignments were of a mere 50,700 MT in total in volume.
