The Goa government has suspended all mining activities on charges of irregularities and illegalities made by Shah commission.
Goa has 90 operational mines of the existing 337 mining leases.The halting of mining operations may not have any major impact immediately since most mines are not currently operating in view of the monsoon, said industry experts.
“Iron ore excavated from Goan mines are of low grade and is exported to China. Domestic steel mills source there raw material from Karnataka. So we do not see ban will impact steel prices in any ways.” said Mr Agarwal a sponge manufacturer based in Panaji, Goa.
