Indian Iron Pellet capacity scaled up from around 12 MnT in FY09 to 66.6 MnT in FY14. Constant decline in Iron ore production because of mining bans in Karnataka and Goa, encouraged escalation in Pellet productions and enhancement in capacities.
In FY15, 24.6 MnT Pellet capacity expansions is projected to take place, which will mount to 107.2 MnT total installed capacity in FY17. Higher supply in contrast to demand will lead to rise in merchant availability and weigh on prices.
Upcoming Capacities in FY15

Is it viable to set up a Pellet plant?
- Will Pellet producers be able to utilize about 70% of total installed capacity?
- How will domestic prices react over excess capacity?
- Will India be a net exporter of Pellets?
- Will Pellet utilization increase to about 25-30% in blast furnace?
