India: Uttar Pradesh allows thermal power plants to import coal

Uttar Pradesh government has allowed power plants to import coal for blending with domestic coal. The state government has been resisting the centre’s directive to import coal citing high costs. However, the state has now allowed imports of 5.46 lakh tonne of coal for August and September months which will result in state government bearing an additional cost of INR 895 crores.
