India: UNDP seeks EOI from Secondary Steel Units

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with support from Aus-AID and Ministry of Steel (MoS), Government of India (GOI) is seeking expression of interest (EOI) from secondary steel induction furnace units for conduct of baseline energy audit.

UNDP is implementing a project named ‘Upscaling energy efficient production in small scale steel industry in India’ for conduct of baseline energy audit. This project also aims to identify appropriate energy efficient technologies and pilot their adoption in electric induction furnace sector.

This United Nations’ global development network intends to appoint a consulting firm. The firm will conduct a baseline audit in 10 EIF (Electric Induction Furnace) units on a sample basis. Based on the Energy Efficient (EE) technologies suggested by the consulting firm, the same will be implemented and demonstrated in 5 EIF units which serve as model units.

The baseline energy audit will be conducted ‘free of cost’ by the agency appointed by the UNDP. It will primarily focus on the induction furnace and its auxiliaries which will be for two days.

Benefits

  • Baseline energy audit report based on actual measurements
  • Improvement scope in energy efficiency
  • Get preference to become the model unit for customized EE technologies implementation
  • The model units will be eligible for availing the technical assistance and financial incentive under the project

Criteria

  • Participating unit have to come under small & medium enterprises (SMEs) EIF sector in India. The total installed capacity shall be less than or equal to 50 MT
  • Participating unit has submitted EOI duly filled and signed by owner with stamp
  • The number of units is limited to 10. The final right to select the units vests with the UNDP
