The recent Supreme Court’s verdict, which put under scanner the mining activities of Odisha companies running without a formal state nod to their lease renewal applications, has impacted the mining operations in Jharkhand as well.

- SAIL-Durgaiburu
- SAIL-Bhudaburu
- SAIL- Kiriburu
- Tata- Noamundi
- Singhbhum Minerals

On 16 May, 2014 the Supreme Court directed an interim measure that 26 leases operating on 2nd and subsequent renewals without Odisha government’s nod, would not be allowed to operate, which included major miners like Tata Steel & SAIL. Later, the state government allowed captive miners to resume operations.
Five Iron ore mines that have been spared include Rungta Mines, Anandita Traders, Usha Martin, Messers Anil Kumar Khirwal and Shah Brothers. These mines had either been given fresh lease in the recent past, or they received or were awaiting their first renewal.
