- Erode finger turmeric hits multi-year high as supply tightens
- Arrivals decline 25% from usual levels amid drought, crop damage
India’s turmeric prices have strengthened sharply, with finger turmeric in Erode crossing INR 22,000/quintal (qtl) for the first time on 14 October 2026, as drought, reduced cultivation, and lower arrivals tighten supply. Expectations of lower production in the upcoming season have also encouraged farmers and traders to hold stocks.
Erode prices reach multi-year highs
The maximum procurement price of finger turmeric rose to INR 22,989/qtl, a multi-year high, on Tuesday from INR 20,799/qtl on Monday. Bulb turmeric prices increased to INR 19,699/qtl from INR 19,011/qtl over the same period. Finger turmeric prices have recovered from INR 14,000/qtl on 20 April 2026 and INR 15,199/qtl on 19 June 2026.
Drought tightens supply
Dry conditions across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra have affected cultivation and crop development. In Erode, arrivals have declined around 25% from usual levels, while concerns over next-season supplies have supported stockholding. Similar price strength has been reported in Nizamabad and Sangli, alongside the futures market.
Rainfall to influence outlook
Market participants expect prices could approach INR 30,000/qtl during the festive season, although this remains speculative. Further gains will depend on rainfall, crop damage, demand and fresh arrivals, while improved weather or increased stock liquidation could moderate the rally.
