India: Trade-level HRC prices in India remain steady w-o-w

Trade-level prices of hot-rolled coils (HRCs) in India remained steady this week ended on 9 December , reflecting consistent market conditions. HRC prices ranged between INR 45,500 and 47,600 per tonne (t) ($506-530/t) across regions, while cold-rolled coil (CRC) prices moved within INR 50,500 to 55,300/t ($562-616/t).

BigMint’s bi-weekly benchmark for HRCs (IS2062, Gr E250, 2.5-8 mm/CTL) saw a slight adjustment of INR 100/t ($1/t) w-o-w, settling at INR 45,700/t ($509/t) on 9 December 2025, compared to INR 45,800/t ($510/t) the previous week. CRC (IS513, Gr O, 0.9 mm/CTL) prices experienced a marginal change of INR 200/t ($2/t) w-o-w, standing at INR 53,800/t ($599/t) on 9 December versus INR 54,000/t ($601/t) the week prior. These prices are ex-Mumbai for the distributor-to-dealer segment and exclude 18% GST.


Market update

The domestic HRC market continues with moderated activity, formed by steady demand and procurement aligned with current requirements, according to sources. However, export activity is subdued, with European quotas already exhausted and no new offers emerging, while demand from the Middle East remains lacklustre.

Import volumes: India’s bulk imports of HRCs reached 64,035 t as of 5 December 2025. An additional 112,038 t of shipments are expected by mid-December.

Export volumes: Bulk exports of HRCs from India totaled 134,507 t as of 5 December 2025.

Outlook

The HRC market is likely to maintain its current steadiness in December, with demand and export activity continuing at moderate levels. Price rises are expected to remain muted, reflecting balanced market dynamics and ongoing procurement aligned with industry requirements.
