India: Tomato prices fluctuate across Rayalaseema as heavy arrivals influence market trends

  • Rayalaseema tomato arrivals reach 12,200 t, with second-grade produce dominating supplies
  • Heavy supplies weigh on Raptadu prices, while stronger inter-state demand supports Kalikiri

Tomato prices across Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region, a major production hub, witnessed mixed trends as market rates continued to respond to varying demand and supply conditions. According to the Andhra Pradesh Department of Agricultural Marketing, total arrivals across major market yards stood at 12,215.08 tonnes (t), comprising 5,564.91 t of first-grade tomatoes and 6,650.17 t of second-grade tomatoes. While quality arrivals supported prices in some markets, heavy supplies during the peak harvesting season exerted pressure on rates in others.

Quality arrivals keep prices stable in key markets

Prices remained stable in Palamaner, V Kota, Punganur, and Madanapalle, supported by steady arrivals of quality produce. Kalikiri market recorded better prices compared with the previous week due to higher demand from other districts and states, although rates eased marginally from the previous trading session.

Heavy arrivals pressure prices in high-supply markets

Mulakalacheruvu continued to receive heavy arrivals as the peak tomato season progressed, while the Raptadu private market recorded the highest arrivals at 6,750 t. Prices in Raptadu declined due to increased local production and higher supplies from Karnataka, Chittoor, and Himachal Pradesh, which added to market availability. Meanwhile, no tomato arrivals were reported from Pattikonda and Peapully during the reporting period.

Outlook

Tomato prices across Rayalaseema are expected to remain influenced by regional demand and supply dynamics. Continued peak-season arrivals and additional inflows from neighbouring producing regions may keep prices under pressure in high-arrival markets, while centres benefiting from stronger inter-state demand are likely to maintain relatively better prices.
