India: Thermal coal stock at Gangavaram stable amid limited portside trade

CoalMint’s stock report reveals that thermal coal stocks were the highest at Gangavaram Port, at 2.5 million tonnes (mn t), as on 8 Jul’21, mainly stable compared to 2.7 mn t seen last week.

Owing to a sharp rise in imported coal prices and the uncertainty ahead, major traders have raised their portside coal offers and are expecting further increase in prices. Whereas, on the buyers’ side, amid sluggish domestic demand, buyers were reluctant to accept high offers, resulting in limited trades being concluded.

Thermal coal stock of BSP, Indian Coke, and Swiss Singapore fell 11% w-o-w to 1.6 mn t, while stock of Adani Enterprise rose by 0.9% w-o-w to 1.11 mn t.

Thermal coal stock at Mundra Port has been assessed at 1.91 mn t in week 28. CoalMint’s stock report reveals, Adani Power accounted for the highest stock of 1.0 mn t at Mundra Port, followed by a combined stock of 0.68 mn t belonging to CGPL and Tata, with Adani Enterprise owning 0.10 mn t.

Stock at Vizag Port were at 1.53 mn t, while the same at Krishnapatnam and Navlakhi ports were at 1.40 mn t and 1.16 mn t, respectively.

Coal stock at Haldia Port rose slightly by 0.41 mn t in week 28 as against 0.37 last week due to rise in stocks of Tata Steel and Electrosteel. Stock at Paradip Port, however, fell to 0.35 mn t as against 0.44 mn t last week due to fall in stockpile of Rungta Mines and Visa Minmetal.

At Kandla Port, thermal coal stocks were at 1.1 mn t in week 28 due to rise in the inventory of Friends Impex and Swiss Singapore.

Adani Power and Adani Enterprise rule the charts

Port-wise, thermal coal stock of Adani Power remained higher at 2.66 mn t with majority of it at Hazira (1.02 mn t), Mundra (1.0 mn t), and Dahej (0.65 mn t) ports.

Thermal coal stock held with Adani Enterprise was at 2.5 mn t in week 28. The company held majority stocks at Gangavaram Port (1.11 mn t) and Krishnapatnam Port (0.82 mn t).

Following this was BSP, Indian Coke, Swiss Singapore and Agarwal Coal with combined 1.38 mn t at Gangavaram Port. Swiss Singapore’s stock at Kandla Port totalled 0.24 mn t.

Agarwal Coal has a combined stock of about 0.90 mn t at Navlakhi, Magdalla, Kandla, Mangalore and Tuticorin ports.
