Amidst a surge in global thermal coal prices, India’s non-coking (thermal) coal imports fell by 21% m-o-m to 10.11 mn t in Jul’21. This is the third consecutive month of decline in thermal coal imports in the country as end-users shifted to procuring more of domestic coal. Resilient vessel freight rates and supply tightness in major exporting countries have also kept importers away from making any major bookings.
