India: Tata Sukinda Chrome Lease Issue

Hearing of Tata Sukinda Chromite mines completed at HC; verdict reserved.

Bhubaneswar:  Hearing of Tata Sukinda Chromite mines issue has been completed on Thursday and the Odisha High Court has reserved its verdict on the case. Hearing was done by the High Court bench constituting of Justice Indrjit Mohanty and Justice Biswanath Mohapatra. It is expected that the High Court will announce its verdict within two weeks.

Senior Supreme Court lawyer, Abhisek Manu Singhvi on behalf of Tata has argued that the issue is in between the lease holder (Tisco) and the lease provider (the state government). So, the state government may take a call for the renewal issue and there is no role of a third party. On the other hand, advocating on behalf of IMFA senior lawyer, P Chidambaram has said that the issue is related to mining so others can be a party in it. Senior SC lawyer, Salman Khurshid also presented the case on behalf of JSL.
