INDIA: Steel prices in Maharashtra move up over hike in power prices

Maharashtra electricity board hikes power prices by 16-18% for all segments on higher input cost. It joins a growing number of state distributors including those in Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Punjab, that raised tariffs in 2012.

This has led steel prices in Maharashtra to go up by Rs 300-400/t.Manufacturers unwilling to sell at previous levels over rise in input cost reported local traders.

Power prices have been raised by Re 1/unit, which will increase our cost by Rs 400-500/t,said a manufacturer based in Jalna (Maharashtra)
