The Ministry of Steel has extended the deadline for BIS certification of ferro silicon by six months from 23 Apr’22 to 23 Oct since the inspection process has been delayed due to travel restrictions from foreign countries. India is dependent on ferro silicon imports, predominantly from Bhutan. In CY21, Bhutan accounted for 147,200 t (63%) of ferro silicon imports, followed by China at 21,200 t (9%) and Malaysia at 7,700 t (3%).
