The Odisha Pollution Control Board on 12 Mar ’21 accorded consent to SMC Power Generation Ltd to set up a 3-strand billet caster with capacity of 225,000 t per annum along with a 22 MW power generation unit at Badmal in Jharsuguda district. The company has an existing 180,000 t sponge iron capacity along with a 350,000 t billet and 250,000 t re-bar manufacturing facility at Hirma in Jharsuguda. The facility also houses a 33 MW power plant.
