Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. (SMEL) has launched stainless steel rebar production, targeting coastal regions. This initiative supports the Indian government’s vision for coastal infrastructure and the ‘Make in India’ programme. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways advocates using stainless steel rebars for their corrosion resistance properties, and Minister Nitin Gadkari has emphasised their mandatory utilisation within 30 km of the coast.
