Melting scrap prices in Alang – one of the world’s largest ship breaking yards in Gujarat, hit an all-time high since Mar ’12, as per the data maintained by SteelMint. Prices for HMS (80:20) ship breaking increased by INR 600/t d-o-d and stands at INR 29,400-500/t exy excluding GST, sources reported to SteelMint. Price rise was supported by global scrap trends and optimistic sentiments in the domestic market.
