The Shah commission committee appointed by Government of India in order to check illegal mining in various states of the country, will visit Odisha on 27th of this month. Earlier it has to visit on 22nd February, but after the state governments request the visit has been delayed for 5 days. Hopefully this will the final visit and head of the panel justice M.B.Shah will lead the team.
Before this Shah commission's recommendation has made Supreme Court of India to put blanket ban on mining in the state like Karnataka and Goa. Odisha is the largest iron ore producing state in India with a production of 66 million tonnes in 2011-2012.
Industry experts believe that situation is not critical as it was in Karnataka and Goa. Chances are high that miners with excessive mining will let go off with some penalties.
