Odisha 50:50: SC redirects the case to Odisha HC

In the hearing for Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by steelmakers, held yesterday the Apex Court has redirected the case to Odisha High Court.

Earlier in Aug’14, steelmakers located outside Odisha – Chhattisgarh based Raipur Power & Steel and West Bengal based Mark Steels had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against Odisha government’s decision of reserving 50% of Iron ore for the state based industry, which was also called valid by the Odisha High Court. Hearing for this petition was expected to take place on 01 Sep, 2014.

In the hearing held yesterday, the Supreme Court re-directed the case to Odisha High Court justifying that review petition is still pending there, for which next hearing may take place on 12 Sep, 2014.

So, now the Odisha High Court is to conduct a hearing on the review petition filed by Federation of Indian Minerals & Industries (FIMI), which is a representative body of the miners. And, if the steelmakers are still not convinced with the decision, they need to approach the Apex Court.
