- Urgent requirement leads to entire 10,000-t booked at Rourkela auction
- Average bid prices increase by INR 2,300/t at Bhilai auction on 16 Jul’26
SAIL Rourkela successfully concluded its crude coal tar (CCT) auction on 15 July 2026, selling the entire offered quantity of 10,000 tonnes (t) at a weighted average price of INR 58,450/t exw. According to market participants, the entire volume was secured by a single buyer with an urgent industrial requirement, limiting participation from other bidders.
The successful outcome followed two unsuccessful auction attempts on 6 July and 10 July 2026, which failed to attract sufficient bids due to a relatively high base price.
Meanwhile, SAIL Bhilai conducted a CCT auction on 16 July 2026, where the entire offered quantity of 1,999 t was sold at a weighted average price of INR 60,180/t exw. This marks an increase of around INR 2,300/t compared with the previous auction held on 6 July 2026, in which the same quantity was sold at INR 57,800/t.
The sharp rise in bid prices reflects improved buying interest, tighter spot availability, and buyers’ willingness to secure material amid expectations of firmer feedstock costs and sustained downstream demand.
Additionally, SAIL Bokaro has scheduled its next crude coal tar (CCT) auction for 22 July 2026, with 480 t being offered for sale.
