India: SAIL, NMDC to auction over 13,000 t of crude coal tar in Jul’26

Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant and NMDC’s Nagarnar Steel Plant are scheduled to auction a combined 13,499 tonnes (t) of crude coal tar in the first week of July, with buyers expected to closely track price realisation amid steady downstream demand.

SAIL-Rourkela offers highest volume

SAIL Rourkela will auction 10,000 t of crude coal tar on 6 July, significantly higher than the 2,000 t offered in its previous auction held on 26 June.

In the previous auction, the entire offered quantity was allocated at an average weighted price of INR 59,000/t, indicating healthy buyer participation.

SAIL-Bhilai schedules 1,999 t auction

SAIL Bhilai will auction 1,999 t of crude coal tar on 6 July.

In its previous auction held on 25 June, the plant sold the entire offered quantity of 2,992 t at an average weighted price of INR 54,250/t, reflecting steady demand from downstream consumers.

NMDC-Nagarnar to auction 1,500 t

NMDC Nagarnar will offer 1,500 t of crude coal tar through auction on 3 July.

The plant’s previous auction, conducted on 12 June, witnessed full allocation of the offered 2,500 t at an average weighted price of INR 56,700/t, highlighting sustained buying interest.

Market outlook

The upcoming auctions are expected to provide fresh direction to the domestic crude coal tar market. While in the previous auctions, all the three plants witnessed full allocation of offered volumes, market participants will closely monitor bidding intensity and price realisation in the latest sales amid stable demand from coal tar distillers, carbon black manufacturers and other downstream industries.
