SAIL is looking to diversify metallurgical coal imports to lessen dependence on a single country, Chairman A.K. Chaudhury has said. India’s imports of coking coal in 2019-20 were pegged at 56 mn t, out of which 45 mn t was imported from Australia alone. SAIL is part of the PSU JV International Coal Ventures Ltd. that has acquired 500 mn t coal mines in Mozambique.
