Rungta mines is planning to increase the production of ROM Manganese ore at its Kolmang Manganese mines in Sundargarh District from current 40,163 MT pa to 60,000 MT pa, of which 54,000 MT would be marketable ore. The company has applied for Environmental Clearance for the expansion of project and has submitted the form-1 and pre-feasibility report couple of days back. In June last year, the Indian Bureau of mines (IBM) had approved the modified mining plan of the mining project.
Demand-Supply Scenario of Manganese Ore
According to an estimate by the Ministry of Steel, the domestic demand of Manganese ore in India would be 5.71 MnT in FY16. But, the production of ore in FY16 is expected to be around 3.01 MnT and the supply gap would cross 2.48 MnT, which will further increase to 2.70 MnT by the next financial year (2016-17) that will be met by imports.
