- 75,000 t each of prime-quality Goonyella, Brooks Run coal on offer
- Brooks Run offered at base price of INR 20,000/t, Goonyella at INR 24,850/t
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) has announced an e-auction for 150,000 t of imported coking coal through MSTC on 25 July. The catalogue comprises two premium washed coking coal grades — Goonyella Coking Coal and Brooks Run high-volatile coking coal — with 75,000 t allocated to each grade. The cargoes will be offered on an ex-Gangavaram and ex-Visakhapatnam ports basis.
The e-auction will remain open from 12:00 IST to 16:00 IST on 25 July. Buyers will be required to complete payment within seven days of acceptance, while the allotted quantity must be lifted within 15 days from the issue of the delivery order.
Goonyella dominates premium offering
The auction includes 75,000 t of prime-quality washed Goonyella coking coal, divided into three lots of 25,000 t each. The material carries a starting price of INR 24,850/t, with bids invited under the price-quantity-time (PQT) allocation mechanism.
Brooks Run offered at lower base price
RINL has also listed 75,000 t of prime-quality washed Brooks Run high-volatile coking coal, also packaged in three lots of 25,000 t each. The grade has a starting price of INR 20,000/t, offering buyers a relatively lower-priced imported coking coal option.
The auction provides domestic steelmakers and merchant coke producers with an opportunity to secure imported coking coal through the east coast. The availability of both premium hard coking coal and high volatile coal will allow buyers to optimise their coal blends based on technical requirements and procurement costs. The sizeable volume may support near-term sourcing requirements amid continued reliance on imported coking coal for coke production.
