India: RINL restarts BF-3, boosts capacity under govt’s revival plan

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) successfully restarted its Blast Furnace-3 (BF) on 28 June 2025, marking a key milestone under the Government of India’s INR 11,440 crore revival package.

With all three furnaces now operational, the company has ramped up its hot metal capacity from 5 to 7.5 million tonnes per annum (mnt/year), targeting daily hot metal production of 18,000-20,000 tonnes (t).

The restart comes after BF-3 remained idle due to raw material shortages and financial constraints. The management views this as a critical step toward restoring full operational capacity and stabilising the company’s financial performance.

This development signifies renewed momentum in the company’s recovery efforts, reinforcing its strategic importance in the country’s steel sector and aligning with national goals for industrial revival and capacity expansion.
