India: Rice rake movement reaches 0.5 mnt, led by Karnataka

Rice rake movement across India reached 0.5 million tonnes (mnt) as of 26 September, according to BigMint data. Karnataka recorded the highest inflow at 102,106 t, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 66,132 t and Assam at 57,355 t. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Bihar also recorded significant rice movement during the period.

Karnataka records highest rice inflow

Karnataka received 102,106 t, with supplies originating from Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Odisha, Punjab, and Assam. FCI, Anjaneya Traders and NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation) were among the listed consignors/consignees. Uttar Pradesh recorded 66,132 t, with movement originating within Uttar Pradesh. FCI, Gulab Chand and Tirupati Traders were among the listed participants. Assam received 57,355 t, with supplies coming from Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar. Dhanawant Trading, FCI, and Adani Wilmar were among the listed participants.

Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar record significant movement

Tamil Nadu received 52,361 t. Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and FCI were listed among the participants. Gujarat recorded 43,215 t, with supplies mainly from Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. FCI, Shivi Export and Bishnoi Agro Traders were among the listed participants. Bihar received 42,046 t. Bihar State Food Corporation, FCI, and Thakur Traders were among those listed. Andhra Pradesh recorded 28,648 t, with supplies from Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, while Jharkhand received 23,994 t from Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Other states record continued rice movement

Rajasthan received 20,630 t, mainly from Punjab and Haryana. Maharashtra recorded 18,837 t, with supplies from Chhattisgarh and Punjab, while Kerala received 17,909 t from Telangana. Jammu and Kashmir recorded 11,364 t, followed by Tripura at 5,532 t. Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram each recorded 5,158 t.

Outlook

Rice rake movement remained concentrated across major consuming states, with Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Assam accounting for the highest inflows. FCI was involved in movement across several destinations, while private participants and state agencies also contributed to the recorded volumes. Continued movement across southern, northern and northeastern regions highlights broad-based inter-state rice dispatches during the period.
