India’s power consumption increased a modest 3% y-o-y to 127.8 billion units (BU) in Jul’22 against 123.7 BU in Jul’21, but inched down 4% on the month from 133.3 BU in Jun’22. Reduced electricity demand during the monsoon helped the thermal power plants to scale up their coal inventory levels. At the end of July, the plants had accumulated 29.85 mnt of coal, sufficient for 11 days of power generation.
