Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Ltd, which recently completed acquisition of VSL Steels’ pig iron plant, has fired the blast furnace and pig iron output is likely to come on stream this week, as per market sources. VSL Steels has a mini blast furnace with an annual production capacity of around 150,000 t. Pig iron prices are likely to remain under pressure as supplies improve, while demand remains weak on account of falling steel and scrap prices globally.
