Total domestic sales of petroleum coke for December 2022 rose by 18.8% to 0.82 mnt . For the April-December period, sales witnessed a double-digit growth of 14.2% over the same period last year.

The data includes all types of petroleum coke including fuel grade petroleum coke, anode grade petroleum coke (LS) and calcined petroleum coke. However, it does not include imports.

On a monthly basis, the highest sales were recorded by IOCL at 0.346 mnt, up 87.4% y-o-y followed by NEL and BPCL at 0.153 and 0.119 mnt respectively. The maximum decline in sales was recorded by RIL at 92.7%.

Rajasthan continues to be the leading state for pet coke sales for December as well as in the April-December period. It is mainly due to the concentration of various cement units in the state such as UltraTech, ACC, Ambuja Cement, Shree Cement, JK Cement, JK Lakshmi Cement, Mangalam Cement, Wonder Cement, etc. that are major consumers of pet coke sourcing primarily from domestic producers. The other states in among the top 5 are Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
On a monthly basis, amongst the top 10 states in terms of pet coke sales, maximum growth was recorded by Chhattisgarh, followed by Himachal Pradesh. Rajasthan, on the other hand, recorded the maximum decline in sales by 33.5% followed by Punjab at 25.1% over same month last year.
In April-December, the highest growth in sales was recorded by Andhra Pradesh at 70.9% followed by Madhya Pradesh at 35.7% y-o-y. The sharpest drop of 19.6% was recorded in Punjab.
