India: Performance of CIL in Jun’17

Ministry of coal has released the monthly performance report of Coal India Ltd (CIL) for Jun’17 which is summarised below.

Coal Production:
CIL’s coal production stood 39.7 MnT in Jun’17, down by 2.52% M-o-M compared with 40.73 MnT in May’17.

Total production during the first quarter of FY18 (Apr’17-Jun’17) was 118.8 MnT against the set target of 141.6 MnT during the said period.

Production from Coal Blocks:
Provisional Coal Production from the allocated captive coal blocks for the month of Jun’17 was 2.978 MnT. Out of which, coal production from coal blocks which were not cancelled by the Supreme Court ( Moher & Moher Amlori Extension and Tasra) was 1.591 MnT.

Overall Coal Dispatch:
Coal Offtake by CIL was recorded at 45.7 MnT in Jun’17. During Apr’17-May’17, total coal offtake has increased by 3.1% to 137.36 MnT compared with 133.2 MnT during Apr’16-Jun’16.

Coal Dispatch to Power Sector:
Coal dispatch to power sector increased 5.5% M-o-M to 34.6 MnT in Jun’17. On the yearly basis, dispatch to power sector had increased 2.06% compared with 33.9 MnT in Jun’16.

About 104.8 MnT coal has been dispatched to power sector by CIL during the first quarter of FY17.

Coal E-Auctions:

Spot E-Auction:
CIL sold 3.21 MnT coal through Spot e-auctions held during Jun’17, with an increase of 32% over the notified price. However, the quantity allocated in Jun’17 auctions was 23% lower than 4.22 MnT coal allocated during May’17 auctions.

Special forward e-Auction:
About 2.45 MnT coal was allocated in the auctions, with an increase of 15% over the notified price.

Special Spot E-Auction:
CIL managed to allocate coal through special spot e-auctions for the first time in 2017. The company sold 0.35 MnT coal in Jun’17, with an increase of 20% over the notified price.
