India: Pellet Rake Movement Down 22% M-o-M in Feb’17

According to pellet rake movement data maintained with SteelMint, movement during Feb’17 by eastern India based pellet plants fell 22% M-o-M. Major eastern India based pellet makers dispatched 18 pellet rakes last month compared to 23 rakes in Jan’17. Iron ore/pellet rake availability in domestic market is low over increased exports from India.

Pellet rake movement of Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) declined 29% M-o-M from 21 rakes in Jan’17 to 15 rakes in Feb’17. Tata Steel increased its pellet sourcing sharply from JSPL and procured 13 rakes in Feb’17 against 4 rakes in Jan’17.

Pellet movement by Arya Iron & Steel remained stable on monthly premises and it supplied 3 rakes in Feb’17. Ardent Steel and BRPL did not supply any rake last month.

Bhushan Steel procured only single pellet rake in Feb’17.

Indian pellet prices moved up sharply in Feb’17 – In line with increasing P-DRI prices, improved pellet trade activities, domestic pellet prices moved up considerably in Feb’17. Barbil pellet prices are up by INR 200/MT while in Jharsuguda and Durgapur prices escalated by INR 800/MT and INR 850/MT M-o-M respectively.
