Indian pellet exports have grown by 88% Y-o-Y for FY18 till Jul with 2.30 MnT pellets against 1.22 MnT exports for the same period last year.
The exports were up 70% for the month of Jul with the quantity of 0.66 MnT compared to the quantity of 0.39 MnT in Jul’16.
There was an increase of 10% M-o-M in Jul exports compared the pellet exports in Jun’17 at 0.60 MnT.
JSPL was the largest pellet exporter in Jul’17. The demand for Indian pellets in China sustained for the third month in a row and an increase in spot pellet premium have continued to push its export for the month of Jul’17.
Indian pellets are sought more in Chinese market after the absence of Brazilian feeder for while now. Chinese mills are giving preference to the higher grade material due to the wet weather to save on moisture contents. Brazil miner Samarco’s last recorded pellet production was 12.31 MnT in 2015.

East India pellet makers continue to export pellets to China: East Coast pellet exporters continue to export pellets to China. Paradip 1.32 MnT with 56% share of total exports, Dhamra with 0.54 MnT material 17% share followed by Mangalore with 16% share at 0.27 MnT, Kandla 0.11 MnT with 8% and Haldia 0.07 MnT remaining 4% share.
JSPL exported 200,870 MT in Jul’17: JSPL- exported 200,870 MnT pellets during in Jul’17. The pellet maker had exported 55,000 MT pellets in Jul’16.
BRPL Exported 114,660 MT in Jul’17: BRPL exported 114,660 MT pellets in Jul’17. The company exported 160,000 MT pellets in the month of Jul last year.
KIOCL Exported 103,400 MT in Jul’17: KIOCL has exported 103,400 MT pellets in Jul’17. There were no exports from KIOCL in the month of Jul last year.
Other Exporters: Other exporters for the month of Jul’17 were Arya Iron & Steel (57,000 MT), Bagadiya Brothers (54,500 MT), Jindal Saw (54,000 MT), Essar Steel (49,000 MT) and Rashmi Metaliks (24,000 MT).
China- the largest export destination from India: India exported 1.46 MnT pellets to China which consists of around 72% share of total pellet exports from India in the month of Jul’17. The remaining 28% material was exported to South Korea and others.

India Pellet Imports: Current financial year’s first shipment was recorded at 45,860 MT pellets in Jul’17 by Essar Steel from Russia at Hazira port.
