Indian pellet exports were registered at 7.5 MnT during Apr’16-Feb’17. The exports have registered 10 fold increase Y-o-Y as only 0.78 MnT pellet was exported from Apr-Feb’16.
JSPL remains the largest pellet exporter in FY17. Increased global iron ore prices post Chinese New Year holiday have speed up the pellet exports from India lately. Iron ore exports from India have more than tripled in FY17. India has exported 14.23 MnT more iron ore in 11 months till Feb-17 compared with 6 MnT in FY16 which is 236% higher this year.
In Feb’17, pellet exports were registered at 0.78 MnT against 1.17 MnT in Jan’16. However, on Y-o-Y basis, there is a tremendous growth as pellet exports remained at 0.05 in Feb’16.
East India pellet makers continue to export pellets to China: East Coast pellet exporters continue to export pellets to China. Paradip, Dhamra and Haldia are the chief exporting ports. China is still the largest destination for Indian pellets exports.
JSPL- Exported 2.13 MnT during Apr-Feb’17: Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has exported 2.13 MnT pellets in FY17 during Apr’16-Feb’17. It is to be noted that JSPL pellet exports in FY16 remained nil.
BRPL exported 1.61 MnT during Apr-Feb’17: BRPL- the second largest pellet exporter has exported 1.61 MnT pellets during Apr-Feb’17. The pellet maker exported only 48,000 MT in FY16.
Essar Steel, has exported 1.37 MnT followed by Rashmi Metalliks (0.92 MnT), KIOCL (0.86 MnT), Arya Iron & Steel (0.32 MnT), Bagadiya Brothers (0.30 MnT).
China- the largest export destination from India: India exported 6.78 MnT iron ore to China which contributes above 90% of total pellet exports. On the other side, exports to Oman were around 6%, Japan 2.5%, Iran 0.9% and UAE 0.9%.
All the pellet export shipment of 780,160 MT made in the month of Feb’17 were only to China.
