The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has accorded approval for enhancing the environment clearance (EC) limit of state-run Odisha Mining Corporation’s (OMC) Daitari iron ore mine from 3 mn t to 6 mn t per annum, as per SteelMint reports. The iron ore mine in Odisha’s Keonjhar and Jajpur district has a total mining lease (ML) of 1018.3085 ha.

SteelMint has earlier reported that OMC had sought approval for expanding the capacity of the Jilling Langalota mine in Odisha’s Keonjhar district from 6.28 mn t to 10 mn t per annum. Moreover, the leading merchant miner has plans to increase the capacity of the Guali iron ore mine to 30 mn t per annum from 5.7 mn t at present. Both the mines were allocated to OMC after months of non-operationalisation following the Odisha minerals auctions in 2020.

SteelMint data shows that the state PSU miner’s Kurmitar Pahar iron ore mine has been granted permission for EC expansion from 2.4 mn t to 6 mn t per year. OMC has also placed a proposal for increasing the production capacity of the Gandhamrdan A iron ore block from 0.35 mn t to 2.5 mn t per annum.

OMC’s iron ore production stood at 1.65 mn t in May’21, marginally down from 1.82 mn t in April.
