India: Odisha merchant miners’ iron ore dispatches rebound in May’20

Odisha- India’s largest iron ore producing state recorded total merchant iron ore dispatches at 2.46 MnT in May’20, rebounding by 88% as against 1.31 MnT in Apr’20. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of miners- SAIL & Tata Steel.

The dispatches picked up for the month amid resumption at numerous mills and price drop announced by the merchant miners. On 19th May’20, Serajuddin Mines decreased iron ore lump offers by INR 500/MT. Essel Mining had cut offers for both 5-18mm and 10-30mm lumps w.e.f 16th May 2020, with prices down by around INR 1200/MT against the last revision in Mar’20.

–Rungta Mines, India’s largest private merchant miner, recorded the highest dispatches of iron ore at 0.56 MnT in May’20, up sharply as against 0.25 MnT in Apr’20.

— AMTC depicted dispatches at 0.26 MnT, followed by Kaypee Enterprises at 0.20 MnT.

–Sarda Mines dispatches for the month stood at 0.19 MnT, down 43% M-o-M against 0.33 MnT in Apr’20. The Supreme Court as on 30th Jan 2020 allowed Sarda mines to resume operations. Apex court allowed the condition to pay dues towards environmental compensation to the Odisha Govt. by 29 Feb’20. The Honorable court also made it clear that JSPL can transport iron ore lying at Sarda mines.

–OMC, state-owned miner, recorded a significant rise in dispatches to 0.43 MnT for May’20 as against 0.06 MnT in Apr’20.
